Measuring gravitational-wave memory in the first LIGO/Virgo gravitational-wave transient catalog

Gravitational-wave memory is a prediction of general relativity, that states that freely-falling test masses will be permanently displaced after the emission of gravitational waves. Here, we present the results of the first search for gravitational-wave memory using LIGO/Virgo observations. Despite the (anticipated) null result, this method will be able to detect memory in the coming decade.
